Better World Books Announces 2024 Literacy Grant Recipients

Mishawaka, Indiana U.S.A. — October 3, 2024 — Better World Books, a global online bookseller and leader in socially conscious business, is proud to announce the donation of $43,500 in literacy grants to deserving organizations as part of its 2024 Literacy Grant program. This year’s grants will support a diverse range of literacy initiatives across nineteen (19) organizations, furthering the mission of Better World Books to promote literacy and education worldwide.
The 2024 Literacy Grants were designed to support Early Reader Projects that make a significant impact on young minds and contribute to building a foundation for a lifelong love of reading. The grants present a unique opportunity for organizations dedicated to fostering early literacy in children from birth to five years old.
Each grant recipient was selected by the Better World Books Literacy Council based on its innovative approaches to addressing literacy challenges, the potential for sustainable impact, and an alignment with Better World Books’ core values.

In the USA:
- Friends of the Eastern Shore Public Library, VA—$3,000 for the ESPL Early Literacy Program.
- Black Young and Empowered, GA—$3,000 for the Reading and Grow Program.
- St. Monica Catholic Church, KS—$2,500 for the Children Are Reading Early Skillsets Program.
- Reach Out and Read, IA & NE—$2,500 for the Early Literacy Initiative.
- A Bundle of Books in Washington, DC—$1,500 for A Bundle of Books and Martha’s Table Partnership.
- Lakewood Memorial Library, New York—$2,500 for Early Literacy and Language Development at Lakewood Memorial Library.
- Ferst Readers—$1,500 for Improving Childhood Literacy in the State of Georgia.
- Riverside Public Library, IL—$750 for Tonieboxes for Early Literacy.
In the UK:
- Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL), London—£2,500 for the Happy to Listen initiative.
- Inch View Nursery, Scotland—£2,000 for Cultivating Minds in our Reading Garden.
Around the World:
- Humanitarian Foundation, Bangladesh—$3,000 for Rowa Kyang (“Village School”).
- We Learn Ghana, Ghana—$3,000 for the Bright Beginnings Project.
- Society for the Improvement of Rural People, Nigeria—$2,500 for Read4Fun.
- Seriti Institute, South Africa—$2,500 for aRe Bapaleng (“Let’s Play”).
- Mozambican Disability Association-ADEMO, Mozambique—$2,500 for Read and Grow program.
- Wow Mom Ltd, Kenya—$2,500 for Great Book, Great Read, Great Minds!
- Nkwane Consulting and Training Services, South Africa—$2,500 for Bright Beginnings: Empowering Young Readers.
- Hope for Youth—Uganda (H4YU), Uganda—$1,500 for Hope for Youth—Early Language and Literacy Project.
- Bhavishya Bharat, India—$750 to Kishlay initiative.
